The Mathias Botanical Garden seeks to promote botanical knowledge and appreciation of nature to the UCLA community and public at large. Its diverse plant collections are designed to assist the teaching and research missions at UCLA while creating a tranquil environment within the urban surroundings. The Garden acts as a community gathering place for a wide variety of groups and through its own events promotes plant conservation, botanical research, and horticulture.

The koi fish are HUGE and beautiful! The space feels peaceful and serene. The trees change leaves with the seasons. The chairs are generously and carefully placed. Lovely!! A blessing of a garden.

What a beautiful place in the middle of such a bustling city. The garden is very well thought out in regard to layout and stops for peaceful meditation. Many chairs and some tables are placed throughout offering many locations to choose from. The variety of trees and flowers is amazing. One of the highlights of my visit. Highly recommend. Dogs are allowed and restrooms are located at the main entrance at the bottom of the stairs.

It was a beautiful day for a walk around the gardens. There are several places to sit and reflect, relax or have a snack. There are no signs directing you to the gardens, at least that we could find, but we managed to find our way. I would love to go back mid spring to see more butterflies and dragonflies. Street parking was plentiful, even on a Sunday!
